First Year and Career Services Center

VISION

First Year and Career Services envisions a community where students own and shape their personal and professional journeys, aligning their values and interests with meaningful careers. Through self-assessment and exploration, we guide students to develop career paths that enhance their lives and contribute to their communities.  We offer a welcoming, supportive, and diverse environment that values each person’s uniqueness and empowers students to embrace their identities as they navigate their futures.

MISSION

First Year and Career Services is dedicated to educating and supporting students as they explore career options, build confidence, and strengthen skills. We offer holistic, culturally responsive career development and coaching to help students achieve their personal, academic, and professional goals. By connecting students with valuable resources and services, we guide them in making informed decisions.

The First Year and Career Services offer career exploration and development advisement to Seattle Central students. We can help:

  • Explore career opportunities, interests, and academic pathways to get there.
  • Provide academic guidance to first year and undecided students on class selection and potential areas of study.
  • Develop resume and cover letter writing skills, & prepare for interviews.
  • Discuss networking, job search methods, and scholarship resources.

We are excited to promote a new opportunity with our faculty partners in the First Year Learning Community! A Learning Community (LC) is an innovative class that is taught by two or more instructors who fully integrate course work to explore a single theme through multiple subjects. The dynamic, interactive learning environment includes student seminars, field trips, group projects, performances, guest speakers, co-curricular activities, and action research – anything but your traditional classroom fare. The class can be a full course load with a total package of 8-15 credits in one learning experience.

Learning Communities meet Seattle Central’s Associate of Arts degree requirement of 8 credits of integrated studies. After taking one LC, students rave about the experience and are eager to enroll in others as they continue their college journey.
