The Global Studies Emphasis is a transdisciplinary study of globalization and the diaspora. Students will examine the migration of people, ideas, art, and products through an economic, cultural, and political lens. By taking selected courses in the emphasis, students will gain the knowledge, practice, and skills to offer equitable solutions to the planet’s most pressing global challenges.
Completion of the emphasis is noted on your transcript and prepares students to transfer into a Global Studies program at a four-year college or university. Many universities and colleges value a global and multicultural understanding. The emphasis opens doors to a variety of careers in international relations, human rights advocacy, museums, education, public service, health care, tourism, and international business

A Bachelor's degree or higher may be required for some careers listed above.
Students who choose an AA, AB or AS degree with the Global Studies Emphasis can transfer to a four-year school and major in Global/International Studies, as well as a variety of majors that value multicultural and global understanding.
Program and admissions requirements vary from college to college. Contact a Central advisor to create an educational plan tailored to transfer to the institution of your choice.

Students who successfully complete this emphasis will be able to:
- Delineate the major historical changes that have led to contemporary globalization.
- Compare discourses and practices of human rights in our global age, in particular as they relate to gender, health, sexuality, race, belief systems, ethnicity, poverty, and/or the environment.
- Analyze the contemporary global economic, cultural, artistic, political, and/or legal driving forces of globalization as well as the resistance to them.
- Analyze the diversity of experiences and perspectives that exist beyond the US, particularly those of Latin America, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, and their diaspora.
- Apply critical thinking and reasoned analysis to deconstruct overgeneralization, stereotyping, and misrepresentation of people, cultures, and/or global issues and events.
- Communicate in another language by taking at least one quarter of that language, or the equivalent.
- Communicate using verbal and non-verbal behaviors, languages, and strategies that are appropriate to specific audiences.
- Formulate responses to promote a more equitable and sustainable world.
