All Gender Bathroom Taskforce

Calling all transgender and all-gender expansive students!

Are you passionate about creating an inclusive campus environment? We are actively recruiting individuals who identify as Transgender or Gender Expansive to be part of our committee. As members of the task force, you will play a crucial role in locating and advocating for all-gender restrooms on campus.

All new buildings and remodels will only contain all-gender restrooms. Ideally, multiple single-stall restrooms but, if entirely necessary as a cost-saving measure, multi-stall all-gender restrooms are fine as a fallback.

As for the buildings which are old and are not due for a remodel, we propose working with queer students at the colleges to figure out which restrooms should be converted to an all-gender in order to meet the needs of Seattle Colleges as quick as possible. This order would follow a set of strict inclusivity criteria to ensure it doesn't get hijacked by others to meet inclusivity quotas. These criteria would be something like the policies below:

1. Restrooms should be as central as possible in the locations which receive the highest density of student foot traffic.

2. Seattle College students should not have to exit a Seattle College building to access an all-gender restroom. As such, Seattle Colleges buildings which do not presently have an all-gender restroom should be given some priority in receiving one.

3. Every building in Seattle Colleges must have at least as many all-gender fixtures as the combined number of fixtures in male and female gendered restrooms in the building.

4. All-gender restrooms should be able to be easily located and should not be harder to find than their gendered equivalents.

5. Chosen locations should aim to create more fixtures than converting other locations would.

All students, staff and faculty who identify as trans are welcome!
