Seattle Maritime Academy Program Overview
Employment in water transportation occupations is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations. Employment will also increase in and around major port cities due to rapidly increasing international trade. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
The Seattle Maritime Academy trains students for a career in the maritime industry. Fully accredited by the U.S. Coast Guard, it is the only program of its kind serving Washington and Alaska. Our students enjoy great success: 95% graduate from the program and all our graduates find work in the maritime industry.
Real–world Training at Sea
Our instructors are experienced maritime professionals who prepare students via classroom instruction, experiential learning, critical on–water training, and professional development. Both maritime programs conclude with a mandatory 30 to 90–day at–sea internship aboard a large commercial vessel.
Marine Deck Technology Program
Learn the theory, design, operation, and maintenance of deck equipment and the applied navigational skills needed to qualify as an Able Seaman–Special. The program also qualifies each graduate for an STCW "ratings forming part of a navigational watch" endorsement. Marine Deck Technology
Marine Engineering Technology Program

Students qualify for an STCW "ratings forming part of an engineering watch" endorsement and as many as six different engine room QMED ratings. Marine Engineering Technology
In addition to the formal programs, the Seattle Maritime Academy provides training in a variety of marine subjects and topics under the aegis of community education. Programs include Fishing Vessel Licensing as well as other vocational, licensing and public safety trainings. Private sector companies, government agencies, military units, and unions can receive customized training. Seattle Maritime Academy Continuing Education
