Curriculum Review Committee

Member Responsibilities

Joining CRC

Members of CRC contribute their insight, knowledge and common sense to the curriculum review process. They provide feedback and support which helps develop courses and programs that meet student needs and maintains the standards of excellence and diversity for which Seattle Central is known. A balance of representatives from each instructional division encourages wide participation and provides opportunities for communication and collaboration across disciplines. CRC requires some time outside of meetings to review course and program information. Salary credits are available for participation.

The CRC meets about 5 times per quarter for 1-2 hours per meeting, usually on Wednesday afternoons at 2 p.m. Members participate in the following activities:

Course Approval Process

Members review course information submitted by their peers and discuss it at a quarterly CRC meeting devoted to new and revised courses. They consider whether and how the course meets Seattle Central Mission and Values and Learning Outcomes, whether the course outline will lead to the stated course objectives, and whether the course meets the requirements for course designations (tags) the instructor is requesting.

Program Reviews

Each quarter, CRC reviews at least one academic program. The academic program prepares a written report that commitee members read and which becomes the basis for an oral program review meeting with the dean and faculty members from the program. Committee members contribute questions and comments before the oral review and participate in the review. Members offer insight, suggestions and support for the academic program.

Committee members rotate the responsibility to chair program reviews.

Other Activites

The committee maintains a Web site with forms and instructions that support its activities. The CRC occasionally serves as an advisory body for larger curriculum issues, responding to initiatives such as revision of the A.A. degree, and to concerns about courses and programs.
