About CRC
Bruce McKenna chairs the Curriculum Review Committee. He can be reached at 587-2036. CRC consists of two subcommittees, Curriculum Review and Course Review. Members for each subcommittee are listed in the roster.
The Committee reviews course proposals and revisions and conducts program reviews for the college's academic transfer and workforce programs. Members include faculty representatives from all divisions.
Course Establishment Overview
The course approval process is designed to ensure that new and revised courses at Seattle Central meet high standards for educational quality. Courses should support the college mission and outcomes and should fit the goals of the programs in which they are taught. The Curriculum Review Committee's role is to provide guidance and feedback to faculty on their course proposals and revisions and to ensure that courses receive appropriate tags and designations. Use the checklist on the course establishment instructions to avoid missing paperwork that can slow the process.
Each quarter, the CRC devotes a meeting to discuss courses it receives. Because the Committee does its best to avoid delays, it does not guarantee that incomplete or late course submissions will be reviewed during a given meeting. As time allows, the committee will review courses that are submitted after the quarterly deadline.
Proposing a new course or significantly revising one requires some planning. Generally, courses must be submitted two quarters--not including summer--before they are offered (see table below). In addition, you'll need to:
- Check CRC deadlines and Class Schedule publication deadlines
- Talk to colleagues in the district; a similar course may already exist
- Talk to your Dean who can advise you on the course and guide you through the process

Program Review Overview
Program reviews provide a faculty-centered forum to review instructional programs' curricula. The review emphasizes dialogue and interaction among program faculty and Curriculum Review Committee members and uses existing documents as background information. Workforce and academic programs will be reviewed on a 3-year cycle.
The purpose of this process is to review a program's curriculum as a whole, including how identified outcomes meet student learning needs. The review also provides opportunities to identify areas of the curricula that need updating or revision and to discuss how assessment is being used to improve the program....read more
