Curriculum Mapping
The Instructional Assessment Planning Group has adopted a new model for outcomes assessment at Seattle Central. This model is adapted from the work of Ruth Stiehl and Les Lewchuck of The Learning Organization.
- Ruth Stiehl and Les Lewchuk. The Outcomes Primer, 3 rd ed. Corvallis, OR: The Learning Organization, c2007. LB2361.5.S751 2007.
- Ruth Stiehl and Les Lewchuk. The Mapping Primer. OR: The Learning Organization, c2005. LB2361.5.S75 2005.
- Ruth Stiehl and Les Lewchuk. The Assessment Primer. OR: The Learning Organization, c2008. LB2822.75.S75 2008.
All three of these books are available on reserve in the library. Faculty and deans are encouraged to read the Outcomes Primer as soon as possilbe before their programs are invited to a curriculum mapping event. These events will be scheduled during the fall and winter quarters (2007-2008) with a goal of creating curriculum snapshots for all programs by the end of winter quarter. Dr. Debra Gilchrist, Pierce College, has provided training to administrators and lead faculty and is now training facilitators to assist in this curriculum mapping initiative.
Spring quarter, the Curriculum Review Committee will begin to use the curriculum maps and Program Outcome Guides (POGs). Eventually Course Outcome Guides (COGs) will be used in the course approval process.
