Learning Support Network (Tutoring)

Tutoring in a broad range of topics is available free to all Seattle Central students at convenient locations all over the campus through the Learning Support Network. The Learning Support Network provides high quality academic support to Seattle Central's diverse student population in order to: improve comprehension, increase competence, instill confidence, and promote success.

BE Learning Center

The BE Learning Center, located in BE2102 (same level as the library), offers one–on–one and group learning support to all Seattle Central students.

Tutoring is available for Writing, Math, Humanities, Business, Accounting, Economics, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Computer Science among many others. The BE Learning Center also offers program embedded tutoring service for specialized programs such Apparel design, ESL & ITP and Culinary Arts, and a Writing Center.

It is possible and strongly recommended to make an appointment a week in advance. Tutors can serve students who drop in on a first come first served basis depending on tutor availability.

SAM Learning Center

The SAM Learning Center, located in SAM100 just off the lobby of the Science and Math building, offers drop–in assistance in math, chemistry, physics, computer science, engineering, and statistics. Several computers are available for students needing assistance with online assignments. The SAM Learning Center is staffed with student tutors who are frequently assisted by science and math faculty.

The Math Path

The Math Path, located in SAM101 and SAM102, offers drop–in study sessions for students enrolled in Math081, Math084, Math085, Math091, Math092, or Math098. The Math Path study sessions are facilitated by math faculty and a staff of student tutors. These study sessions provide not only math content support, but assist students in organizing their own study habits to become successful independent learners.

The Biology Learning Center

The Biology Learning Center, located on the third floor of the SAM building in the biology labs, is a drop–in center that allows students to use the models, microscopes and course specific materials that assist students in studying and learning biology. The Biology Learning Center is staffed with faculty and student tutors. The Biology Learning Center hours are variable and are posted outside the biology labs and in the SAM Learning Center in SAM100.

The Chemistry Learning Center

The Chemistry Learning Center, located on the fourth floor of the SAM building in the chemistry labs, is a drop–in center that allows students access to the equipment and course specific materials that assist students in studying and learning chemistry. The Chemistry learning center is staffed with faculty and student tutors. The Chemistry Learning Center hours are variable and are posted outside the chemistry labs and in the SAM Learning Center in SAM100.

Bruce McKenna Writing Center

The Bruce McKenna Writing Center, located in the Seattle Central Library, Classroom A, offers individual and group tutoring sessions for all Seattle Central students. Drop–in sessions and appointments are available.

Writing Center tutors provide peer feedback on any type of academic writing, as well as personal statements and transfer application essays. We can help with all phases and aspects of the writing process (revision, planning, outlining, research), fostering student writing skills. Writers of all levels are welcome!

Students can make appointments by visiting Accucampus.net/seattlecentral (students will need to click on "Forgot Password" first to obtain a password). Drop–in sessions are also available.

The Learning Support Network provides 24–7 online tutoring for your convenience. Steps to log–in:

  1. Go to Etutoring.org
  2. Click on the tab that says ‘Login Now!’
  3. On the pop window, select ‘Western eTutoring Consortium’ and then select Seattle Central Community College from the drop down menu.
  4. The next page allows you to log into the service.
  5. Your username can be found here by last name. Your password is set to a default one, "Central1" which you will need to change after your first login.
