Associate in Elementary Education DTA/MRP Transfer Requirements

The Associate in Elementary Education-Direct Transfer Agreement (DTA/MRP) program takes approximately two years to complete based upon full-time enrollment. The program is designed to provide a better transfer than the general AA, for students pursuing B.A in Elementary Education (K-8) programs in Washington state. Students planning to teach at the secondary level (grades 9-12) are strongly encouraged to plan early. Students should contact an admissions advisor at the university program where they plan to apply, to learn about specific program prerequisites that can be taken while earning their Associate in Elementary Ed degree.

The program provides a solid foundation for transfer to any B.A. in Elementary Education program in Washington State. WWU, WSU, City U, Antioch, EWU, CWU, Gonzaga, PLU, Heritage, SPU and other universities accept this degree as a direct transfer agreement. Seattle Central’s degree program also transfers to the University of Washington. However, the UW offers an education minor program and students earn a teaching certificate within the UW’s Masters in Teaching degree program.

An overall 2.0 GPA is required to earn the degree. However, a 3.0 or better in program pre-requisites as well as an overall average above a 3.0 GPA will be required for many competitive programs. Some program require a minimum 2.0 in each transfer course taken. Students must check with universities to see specific GPA information as it does vary depending upon the university. In addition, students must meet various other university program requirements before entering a BA in Ed program, including taking the WEST-B test.

Please note that 30 hours of supervised work with children is fulfilled by taking the SCCC EDUC&205Intro to Education course, however some education programs (ex. City U) may require 80 hours as a pre-requisite.

Please see the university Elementary Preparation Program information packet for all additional program requirements as admission to the university programs are a separate application process. Admittance to Seattle Central’s associate degree program does not guarantee admittance to a university Education program.
