What is SORC?

The Student Organizations Resource Council (SORC - pronounced source) is a team of six students who facilitate the organization and orientation of Seattle Central's club life. This team helps clubs access the information, resources and training available to them through Student Leadership. SORC reviews student organization funding requests to ensure they are in keeping with the club's stated purpose and goals and adhere to district and state policies on funding. SORC members also serve as Seattle Central Student Ambassadors.

The members of SORC commit seven hours of service a week for the entire academic year. One SORC member is assigned to represent each Seattle Central Student Organization, providing a new club orientation as each club forms. Each member also serves as an expert in one of five specific areas related to club life.

Any full-time student (enrolled for 10 credits) who has completed 12 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 is eligible to apply for a SORC position. Applications are accepted each Spring Quarter for SORC positions that run from the next Fall-Spring quarters each academic year.

The Student Development Transcript & Legacy Officer facilitates training and information sharing for all Seattle Central Student Organizations about the Student Development Transcript. This officer also encourages clubs to identify and mentor emerging leaders to sustain the club’s organization and projects from year to year.

The External Relations Officer organizes a main calendar of club events on campus and works closely with clubs to help members plan, promote and execute official club events -- big and small!

The Marketing/Event Planning Officers connect club leaders with the College Activities Board for event planning collaboration and helps to promote club events and activities.

The Special Projects Officer organizes special events for club members including the quarterly Student Involvement Fairs and Leadership Luncheons, as well as coordinates a quarterly service project for all clubs to participate.

The Interclub Council Officer chairs and facilitates the monthly meetings of the Interclub Council and helps clubs identify opportunities for collaboration.

The Club Funding Officer assists clubs with understanding all of the options available for funding projects, activities or on-campus events. Fundraising ideas are shared and one-on-one assistance is provided when clubs seek funding directly from SORC.
