What is the ASC? The Associated Student Council (ASC), the official student government of Seattle Central, is responsible for representing student interests to the college administration and for facilitating the organization of a broad range of student committees that work to address issues and concerns and promote services that enhance students’ experience at Seattle Central. A significant ASC responsibility is recommending a yearly budget for the expenditures of student Services and Activities funds to the college president and the Board of Trustees for approval. The Associate Dean of Student Leadership serves as advisor to the ASC. The ASC is composed of 12 members: six Executive members, who commit to ten hours of service a week for the entire academic year, and six Associate members, who work seven hours a week and can apply for either the full year or a quarter at a time. Executive members have detailed job descriptions and Associate members work on specific projects identified by the council each quarter. The ASC meets every Thursday in the Student Leadership Office from 1:30pm - 3:30pm. Meetings are open to all and students are welcome to attend. Any full-time student (enrolled for 10 credits) who has completed 15 credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 is eligible to apply for an ASC position. Council Job Descriptions The Chief Executive facilitates the council hours and responsibilities and attends meetings of the Board of Trustees and meetings of the SCCC President’s Administrative Cabinet, and reports on ASC activities.
