Alumni Association: 2007-2008 Mission, Goals, and Objectives

Mission Statement
The mission of the Seattle Central Alumni Association is three-fold: to connect alumni with current students to help facilitate their career and professional development, to create a sense of advocacy for the college in the community that Seattle Central serves and to provide opportunities for alumni to give back to Seattle Central through service to the college.

  • Goal 1:Connect current Seattle Central students with alumni to help facilitate their career and professional development.
    • Objective 1: Continue to implement the Montlake Bridge Project (MLB) at Seattle Central.
      • Strategic Plan 1: Hold (1) MLB panel each quarter (as part of the Tuesday Leadership Institute series if possible).
      • Strategic Plan 2: Advertise the MLB panel dates in the Transfer Center.
      • Strategic Plan 3: Share info about panel with UW admissions office for them to promote to current Seattle Central students they encounter.
    • Objective 2: Coordinate alumni to serve as guest panelists during the annual summer Student Leadership Board Orientation.
    • Objective 3: Set up a “Walk Down Broadway” event to share information about transferring to Seattle U (similar to UW Transfer Thursdays).
    • Objective 4: Organize quarterly alumni guest speaker “Coffee Talks” to feature the diversity of alumni success stories.
  • Goal 2: Create a sense of advocacy for the college in the community that Seattle Central serves.
    • Ojbective 1: Identify a core group of 5 alumni to serve as the founding members of the Seattle Central Alumni Board.
    • Objective 2: Learn more about the activities of Mano-a-Mano and collaborate.
    • Objective 3: Organize quarterly “alumni spotlight” gatherings to promote individual projects/businesses/interests, etc. in which alumni are involved.
    • Objective 4: Build alumni association web page.
    • Objective 5: Send monthly e-communications to the Seattle Central alumni email list (provided by Katie Metcalf).
      • Strategic Plan 1: Monthly e-news brief will provide a “quick connection” for readers.
      • Strategic Plan 2: Implement a questionnaire for alumni to fill out to gather data on where people are now and what they are doing. (use Survey Monkey)
      • Strategic Plan 3: Feature brief stories on specific alumni (where they are, etc.)
  • Goal 3: Provide opportunities for alumni to give back to Seattle Central through service to the college.
    • Objective 1: Serve annually as readers for the Seattle Central Foundation Scholarship Program.
    • Objective 2: Organize a group of alumni to attend the annual Seattle Central Foundation Harvest Dinner.
    • Objective 3: Utilize the pilot “Alumni Association Board” to serve as alumni representatives as needed for various college events (dedications, etc.)
    • Objective 4: one more idea

**We anticipate that the above goals will build the alumni association to the point that a 4th goal can be added: “Foster alumni-to-alumni communication to create a professional network.”
