Web Design students will benefit from the wide range of experience brought by industry representatives devoted to teaching. Program curriculum includes Typography, Writing for the Web, the Theory of Web Design, UI/UX Design and Web Project/Business Management.

Students will learn to work with Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Dreamweaver and learn to produce websites using XHTML, CSS, JavaScript and PHP.

Combining design classes with core IT classes will prepare our graduates for careers such as Web Designer, Information Architect, UI/UX Designer and Web Producer.

Career Opportunities

Despite the recent economic downturn, the information technology field is still growing faster than any other section of the economy. The Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook 2008-2009 states: “Employment is expected to increase much faster than the average as organizations continue to expand their use of technology.” The handbook refers to the National Employment Matrix for IT – Internet Publishing is expected to grow 40 percent by 2016. More than 1,600,000 new IT jobs will be created in the United States by the year 2014. There is a critical shortage of qualified IT professionals, and excellent opportunities exist with both large and small companies and in the public sector.

Many of our graduates have gone on to start their own freelance businesses, work for Microsoft, and/or found a job with a Web Design and Marketing firm in the greater Seattle Area, San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles.

The growth of the Internet and the expansion of the World Wide Web have generated a variety of occupations related to the design, development, and maintenance of Web sites and their servers. For example, webmasters are responsible for all technical aspects of a Web site, including performance issues such as speed of access, and for approving the content of the site. Internet developers or Web developers, also called Web designers, are responsible for day-to-day site creation and design. Graduates in the Web Design option will be qualified for several World Wide Web careers including Webmaster, Web Designer, UI/UX Designer, Web Producer, Web Administrator, and Web Specialist.

For Webmasters, the Bureau of Labor Statistics lists an annual salary range of $47,000 to $71,500. A recent salary survey by the job bank dice.com reports an average salary for first year Web Designers as $46,773 annually. However, salaries rise quickly with experience. This same report gives the average salary of $54,926 for a Web Designer with 2-3 years experience.
