Graduates of the Graphic Design Program get to work when they leave us. We concentrate on skills for immediate entry into the job market.
Our curriculum is strong on graphic design fundamentals, yet explores and adapts to emerging communication technologies. We pride ourselves in keeping our curriculum current with changes and developments on an annual basis.
Conceptual design and technical skill are combined to produce a competitive portfolio. Instructors with industry experience lead students in consecutive integrated tracks of print and interactive design. Problem solving, strategy development, and powerful use of typography and visuals achieve our communication solutions.
Classes are organized in collegial work groups mirroring a professional studio environment. Design theory and practice, along with production using current computer software, prepare students for a graphic design career in print and interactive media.
Students completing the Graphic Design Program will be prepared for entry–level positions in:
- Advertising agencies: developing strategy and creating concepts which will be implemented across print and interactive advertising media. Designing ads, layouts and presentations, preparing comps for production, creating and maintaining print, web and interactive media campaigns. Work with other creatives including writers, designers and art directors.
- Retail, corporate, and in–house design departments: preparing presentations, designing projects and developing illustrations for print and online media, creating, developing and maintaining web and interactive media presentations, working with other creatives including writers, art directors and preparing comps for production.
- Newspaper, magazine, and book publishing environments: designing and production on a variety of print, online and electronic media including, but not limited to print ads, web banners, interactive ads, layout of articles, books, book covers, online magazines and e–publications. Collaborate with other creators including writers, designers and art directors.
- Design studios: developing strategy and creating concepts which will be implemented across print and interactive media. Work often includes creating corporate logos, building brands for companies, annual reports, and packaging, developing and maintaining print, web and interactive media presentations, and designing layouts for presentation and production.
- Freelance design, illustration and/or interactive media development for a variety of clients including advertising agencies, design firms, corporations, broadcast media, printing companies and other area businesses.
