This 9-month certificate training course originated over 12 years ago as a partnership between Seattle Central Community College and Seattle City Light’s Department of Conservation. The program is specifically designed for working professionals eager to apply sustainable concepts to the buildings they design, develop, and construct. Graduates of the course are eligible to sit for a professional certification exam to become a Certified Sustainable Building
Advisor (CSBA).

Overview
Expert instructors present materials through interactive formatted classes with hands-on exercises, readings, field trips and numerous resources. The SBA Course has been approved for 100 Learning Units (LUs) through the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The course is also approved for AIA’s Sustainable Design (SD) requirements.

Participants learn how to:
 Identify and articulate key sustainable building practices and goals
 Work with designers, architects, builders, operators and utilities managers
to achieve these goals in their projects
 Analyze the costs and benefit of implementation.
 Apply LEED, Built Green, and other relevant criteria and established guidelines effectively
 Take a leadership position in their organizations and communities in a rapidly growing field

 Energy Efficiency and Lighting
 “Green” Material Selection
 Indoor Environmental Quality & Health
 Water Conservation and Quality Protection
 Sustainable Job Site Operations
 Building Operations and Maintenance

…is the Lead Instructor and is a well-respected expert and trainer on green building and sustainability. Other lecturers are local practicing professionals, selected for their practical knowledge, deep expertise and ability to teach.
