"E-business and interactive media are...stealing headlines and dominating the business press. Demand for workers with web-related talents is now almost 13 percent of all IT jobs."

About the Programs
The explosion in electronic commerce means businesses are looking for qualified employees who can help them communicate with employees, clients, and consumers online. This expansion of Internet technologies in the World Wide Web means that employers are looking for qualified individuals who can design and maintain their online business. The term Webmaster includes a variety of positions in the World Wide Web environment. A Webmaster's job could fall into several categories including design, development, and maintenance of websites and their servers. Depending on the site, and the employee's specific talents, a Webmaster could be responsible for the design elements of a site or could focus more on programming and database functions.
Seattle Central offers two programs that emphasize these different skill sets: Web Design and Web Development. These programs share basic curriculum, but provide differing areas of specialization. Graduates in either program may obtain Webmaster positions.
How do I know which option is best for me?
Web Design appeals to students who enjoy the creative work of illustrating and designing materials such as brochures, flyers and newsletters. Students interested in art and graphic design are attracted to this program.
Web Development is suited to students who are interested in math and logic. The emphasis is on the technical aspects of websites such as programming and database development.
We also recommend enrolling in WEB 100, Web Career Survey. This is a prerequisite for both web programs and will provide a thorough overview of career opportunities and the skills required in each.
