Faculty and Staff

The SSH Client we have on campus is called PuTTy, here are some brief instructions for using PuTTy to change your password.

  1. If you don't have PuTTy on your computer, please call NEED to have it installed or go to the Faculty Staff Lab to use it.
  2. Launch PuTTy and enter configuration information in the configuration dialog box.

  3. Host Name (or IP Address): seattlecentral.edu
  4. Protocol: SSH
  5. Port: 22 (the port should automatically be set to 22 when you select the SSH protocol
  6. Click "Open" You should now have a command-line shell
  7. NOTE: You may get a Security Alert dialog box saying that the server's host key is not cached in the registry, click the "Yes" button to accept the key.
  1. Enter your User ID at the prompt
  2. Enter your password at the prompt
  3. You will get a message saying that there is no shell access on this system and you can use this shell to change your password only.
  4. Enter your password (again) at the prompt
  5. Enter your new password NOTE: Your new password must be at least 8 characters, not be based on a dictionary word.
  6. Confirm your new password;
