Meet our Students
Back to introduction
1. What is your full name?
Tomoe Ito.
2. What country do you come from?
Japan.
3. How long have you lived in the United States?
Two years.
4. What is your favorite place in Seattle?
Alki beach, Safeco Field, Ballard, UW, Waterfront.
5. What do you enjoy most about SCCC?
What I like the best about SCCC is its amazing diversity in ethnicity, ages, and cultures. Seattle itself is a quite international city with a variety of people, and SCCC is the best school in Seattle to meet diverse people.
6. What are your plans for the future?
I will graduate from SCCC soon and apply for a job through OPT. I would like to develop my English skill more through the real work experience. OPT is a great chance for international students to get practical work experience here in the U.S.
7. What are the biggest differences between life in your country and life in Seattle?
There are lots of differences in climate, daily life customs, laws, and everything between Japan and the U.S. First of all, I think American people are individual-oriented. I like that very much. School life is also different. Students here study hard, speak out in class a lot, and wear casual clothes.
8. What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishments? Why?
I feel I am getting courageous since I came to the U.S. In the beginning, I didn't want to speak English. I was extremely shy. I was very afraid of making mistakes and hesitated to speak. But now with my English, I can do whatever I want. This is totally because my actual English skill is improving a lot. But more importantly, I've became mentally tough. I would say this is my biggest accomplishment.
