Meet our Students
Back to introduction
1. What is your full name?
Anthony Tjandra.
2. What country do you come from?
Indonesia.
3. Describe your program of study.
I studied ESL for one quarter and now I'm taking accounting as my major at Seattle Central.
4. What are your plans and goals for the future?
I'm very interested in becoming a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
5. Do you think Seattle Central is helping you achieve your goals? Why or why not?
Yes, because SCCC supports its students through the library, tutors, teachers, and other means.
6. How would you describe Seattle?
Seattle is a nice place to study if I compare it to other American cities.
Seattle offers many quiet places to study, but there is a lot you can do when you are not studying, such as going to recreation parks or other places to do outdoor sports.
7. How would you describe Seattle Central Community College?
Seattle Central Community College is a nice place to study in a good location. It is downtown and has a lot of restaurants and places of interest nearby. The other thing is that SCCC has a lot of students who have different backgrounds, ethnicities and races. I think this is the main reason why SCCC is good and rich in cultural things. We can learn a lot of histories and cultures from one another, which is a very interesting thing.
8. What are the biggest differences between life in your country and life in Seattle?
In my country, people assist me to do most everything, but in the United States
I have learned to take care of myself.
I have become very self-sufficient.
9. Is there anything else you’d like to say to prospective students in your country who might be reading this?
I'd suggest that students from Indonesia come to SCCC.
It offers a great place to study and is very organized. The teachers are also nice.
SCCC has a good Indonesian organization, great soccer and basketball teams (the soccer team won a competition held by Indonesian people for all people around Seattle) and other fun things. We have outdoor recreational opportunities at least once a month, where we can go kayaking, hiking, to the beach, and other things. You won't regret if you study at SCCC, especially for those who like soccer, basketball, and outdoor sports!!
