Meet our Students
Back to introduction
1. What is your full name?
Nadia Canosa.
2. What country do you come from?
I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
3. How long have you lived in the United States?
As a student, I've been living here for about 2 years. Before that, I visited this country many times as a tourist.
4. What is your favorite place in Seattle?
I don't have a "favorite place" since I like many places! For example, I love the new Seattle Public Library: it's amazing. Seattle is full of cute and eclectic neighborhoods, like Ballard, Capitol Hill (where Seattle Central Community College is located), Belltown and Madison Park and I enjoy a lot to walk around them. There are also great restaurants, I love to go out for dinner and experience international cuisine from all over the world. Also, during spring the city hosts the Seattle Int'l Film Festival. This festival shows newly released international movies from all over the world, highlighting very much Seattle's cultural scene.
5. What do you enjoy most about SCCC?
My experience at SCCC could not have been better. I love the diversity we have on campus. I am delighted by the engaging teachers I have had and by the resources the school provides for us (like scholarships, career advising, job placement, etc). I can comfortably say that my experience at SCCC has been a life changing experience.
6. What are your plans for the future?
I will be graduating this quarter and will transfer to a 4-year university to pursue a major in Latin American Studies. Seattle Central has inspired me to become a college instructor in the future and would like to teach the subject I love the most: Latin American Literature.
7. What are the biggest differences between life in your country and life in Seattle?
Buenos Aires is a very big city, whereas Seattle is neither small nor large. I think that living in a "medium size" city has its advantages as well. For example, getting tickets available to see your favorite's performers can be tricky sometimes if you live in a big city, but here I never had any problem! There are a few differences between Seattle and my country. In Argentina people tend to be more friendly and warm, have more interaction with each other, and have a much more active social life. In my country people are more sociable and share more time together. Despite the cultural differences, I always felt very good about living here. Finally, what I have enjoyed the most about living here is that I can go snowboarding, rock climbing and mountain climbing without having to travel long hours!
8. What do you consider to be your biggest accomplishments? Why?
The two scholarships I won at SCCC, my academic achievements, my determination to succeed, as well as my ability to adapt to a different culture.
