Immigration Basics

• If you are on a student visa (F-1) you must register full-time each quarter (12 credit hours). All students must make normal progress toward their academic goal.
• If you plan to leave the United States, your SEVIS I-20 must be signed. Each signature is valid for one year for F-1 students, or 6 months for M-1 students.
• Your passport must always be valid.
• You are only allowed to take a vacation quarter after you have been a full-time student in-status for 3 full quarters. College students may be able to take a Summer vacation earlier (ask our advisors).
• You must notify DHS of your new address within 10 days of moving.
• Students are not allowed to work off-campus without special permission from Immigration.
