The Seattle Community College District is comprised of five two year public institutions, established in 1967 and accredited by the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges. With more than 50,000 students each year, the Seattle Community College District is the second largest institution of higher education in the State of Washington.

The District has 2,700 employees and offers 135 academic and technical programs and over 100 contract training programs. The District also annually serves over 1,500 international students and professionals studying individually or in groups.


INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMMING AT A GLANCE

In the past five years, the Seattle Community Colleges have provided training to over 5,000 participants from more than 50 countries. The Colleges have the expertise and flexibility to deliver a wide variety of programs. Programs could include such options as ESL, homestay, dormitory, hotel accommodations, test preparation and institutional testing (TOEFL/TOEIC), internships, site visits, sightseeing and other interesting activities.

  • Prior experience in providing training to various sized groups

  • Minimum lead time for an RFP is two to three weeks; minimum lead time to conduct training is four to six weeks.

ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH FOR SPECIAL PURPOSES

All three colleges have excellent ESL programs for individual students and professionals or short-term "study tour" groups. At North Seattle, Seattle Central and South Seattle, students take intensive ESL and academic preparation courses to prepare for college.

At Seattle Central, students have the additional option of choosing elective courses to gain an ESL Certificate in Business, American Studies and International Communication. Study Tour groups can request a specially customized curriculum and other program options to fit their needs at any of the campuses.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SERVICES

Seattle Community Colleges have outstanding services for international students including cultural and academic orientation programs, educational and career planning, admission and immigration services, housing assistance or placement, airport pickup , trips and activities, testing, and other programs.

OTHER INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS AND AFFILIATIONS

In addition to serving international students at our campuses, the Seattle Community Colleges have relationships with other institutions abroad to facilitate Study Abroad, Faculty Exchange, and other collaborative efforts. The Colleges are members of international organizations such as NAFSA, Community Colleges for International Development, Institute for International Education, Council for International Educational Exchange, Sister City Association, ASPECT International, AMIDEAST, the World Affairs Council, ACIIE, TESOL, AAIEP, and others.

RECENT INTERNATIONAL PROJECTS

Argentina, Germany, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Russia, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand:

 

- Training to over 25 groups in general ESL or special content courses in business, engineering, TOEFL/TOEIC/GMAT test preparation, computers, medical and legal English.

Bulgaria:

 

- US AID project to train directors of Intermediate Support Organization (subcontractor).

Ireland:

 

- Information Technology training and internships.

Japan

 

- Food services training for Greenhouse Limited (Japan) employees at South Seattle.

 

- Lectures on medical assistantship for the Japanese Medical Secretary Consortium at North Seattle.

 

- Training for business college students at North Seattle.

 

- Seattle Central courses through distance learning to students in Okinawa.

Korea:

 

- Early childhood education training to day care administrators at Seattle Central.

Saudi Arabia:

 

- Certificate program in supervision and management to Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency employees at South Seattle.

 

- Training in Avionics and Aviation Maintenance Technology to Saudi Arabian Airlines trainees at South Seattle.

Taiwan:

 

- Intensive ESL training for Rotary Club of Taiwan participants at South Seattle.

Taiwan, Japan:

 

- ESL training to several groups of high school students at North Seattle.

Vietnam:

 

- Advanced Instruction in Management Sciences (AIMS) Program to Vietnamese business and government managers at Seattle Central.
