Budget Entertainment
A Guide to Entertainment in Seattle for Students
CONCERTS & SHOWS
You are lucky to be a student! Many places offer discounts for students or people under the age of 25. Each theater has its own rules, so you should check their web sites or call them. Here are a few "real deals"!
Seattle Symphony
The Seattle Symphony has a special program for college students called "Campus Club". Membership in the Club is free, and allows students to buy symphony tickets for only $10 each. Go to the ticket office at Benaroya Hall up to two hours before any concert to find out if Campus Club tickets are available for that performance. Show your membership card to buy a $10 ticket for the best available seat. The ticket office will stamp your membership card and when you have purchased tickets to four different concerts, your fifth one is free! All you need is a valid student ID. Call (206) 215-4747 for a season brochure or send an e-mail to info@seattlesymphony.org. Benaroya Hall is located downtown at 200 University Street on 3rd Ave. Web site: www.seattlesympony.org
Pacific Northwest Ballet
Students can buy half-price tickets one hour before a show begins, subject to availability. Call the PNB Box Office at (206) 441-2424 or send an e-mail to tickets@pnb.org for more information. (This offer does not include Nutcracker performances.) Half-price tickets for same day performances are also available for purchase at the Half-price Ticketcenter, in the Rite Aid drug store located downtown at 319 Pike Street. Web site: www.pnb.org/.
Ticket/Ticket
Half-priced tickets for a variety of concerts and shows are available on the day of a show at a store called Ticket/Ticket. There is a Ticket/Ticket store in the Broadway Market (401 East Broadway) and in the Pike Place Market. If you are willing to be flexible, you can get some great tickets!
Taproot Theater Company
Half-price student "rush tickets" are available 15 minutes prior to any performance that is not sold out. Also, anyone 25 years of age or under may buy a $10.00 ticket in advance for any performance. (This discount is sometimes better than the rush tickets!) You must show valid ID that verifies your age/student status when you pick up your tickets. For more information: http://www.taproot.org or (206) 781-9705.
Seattle Repertory Theatre
Seattle Rep has special rates for anyone under 25-$10 tickets! You must show valid ID with proof of your age/birth date. The theater is located at 155 Mercer Street at the Northwest corner of the Seattle Center. Visit their web site (www.seattlerep.org) or call (206) 443-2222 for more information.
Shows by Students!
Seattle has many universities and colleges that have wonderful theater and music programs. You may see a future star! Also, many of the faculty on campus are local stars. You can't beat the prices!
Seattle Central Music & Drama Departments
Concerts and performances occur several times during the quarter.
HINT:
There are often free concerts at the Seattle Center, in the Center House or Mural Amphitheater.
University of Washington
The UW has excellent music and drama performances.
For music concerts, check the concert website at www.music.washington.edu and for theater look at http://artsci.washington.edu/drama/season.html.
Volunteering
Many theater companies, concerts, museums and festivals rely on volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to see shows, and also see "behind the scenes". In the past, international students from Seattle Central have had the opportunity to volunteer in the Northwest Folklife Festival, Seattle International Film Festival and the Seattle Central drama department.

MOVIES
Rainy days are perfect days to go to a movie. Maybe that's why Seattle has such a popular film festival!
Matinees
Matinees are early shows and the tickets for these shows are often cheaper than for later shows. Many theaters offer discounts for the first movie of the day. Sometimes the theater discounts all movies until 6:00 p.m. Look at the movie advertisements in the newspaper to find out where there are discounts.
Discount Movie Theaters
These movie theaters offer movies that have been playing in the theaters for a while, but the tickets are cheaper. Tickets are only $3.00 per person for all shows!
