Counseling at Seattle Central
Were you aware that Seattle Central offers a service of personal and career counseling to international students? You might be interested to know that Seattle Central is the only college in the state of Washington to employ a faculty level counselor to work especially with international students. This means that the administration at Seattle Central is being responsive to the needs and concerns of international students, whether those needs are academic, emotional, or relational. Dr. Brian Smith is the counselor assigned to the International Education Programs division of the college. He knows that the lives of international students in the United States can be very stressful at times; that stressors such as difficulties with English, loneliness, financial problems, relationship problems, and adjustment to a new cultural can sometimes overwhelm a student's ability to cope with their studies. If you or one of your friends is so upset that studying or going to class becomes difficult, why not make an appointment with Brian in the South Annex to talk about the problems. Your conversations with Brian are always confidential. Students often find these conversations helpful. In addition to counseling service, Seattle Central also offers career and educational guidance to international students. Brian works closely with Seattle Central adviser, Andrea Vederoff, to offer workshops and individual sessions to help students identify their interests and skills and choose educational pathways to meet their career goals. Andrea and Brian work with each international student at Seattle Central to create a long range educational plan that guides the student to select appropriate classes. They look forward to helping each student to pursue their educational goals in the most informed and efficient way possible. Brian Smith, Ph.D. |
