Tuition and Expenses on the I-20 form

* Tuition is based on 15 credits. Exact tuition amounts may vary slightly from this      figure, usually within $100 - $200, depending on the number of credits a student   takes and the program the student is enrolled in.
* Fees are mandatory for all students, and cover costs associated with a variety of   items, including computer lab(S), the Student Activity Center and discounted public transportation..
* Housing estimates are based on average costs for a student attending Seattle Central. Seattle Central does not arranged housing or homestays for students.
* Medical insurance Requirement: The cost of medical care in the United States is very high. For this reason, international students at Seattle Central are required to purchase the Seattle Community College District medical insurance policy, which include benefits particular to international students. Students will be charged automatically when registering for classes each quarter.
Exception: Students who do not want to purchase the SCCD insurance policy must show proof that they have adequate medical insurance to cover the full length of the academic term, including breaks and vacation quarters. For more detailed information on requires medical insurance, please visit our website at  www.seattlecentral.edu/international/insurance_sl.shtml

Payment Deadlines

Students should be prepared to pay their quarterly tuition and fees at the time of registration. The cost of ESL classes differs from the cost of college classes, so exact tuition and fee amounts for students who take a combination of ESL and College classes will be determined upon registration. Payment may be made prior to or after student’s arrival in Seattle, depending on who is responsible for the payment. Payments not received by registration may result in serious problems for the student, including the inability to attend classes or use campus facilities.

Tuition and Fees Payment Methods

Students must be prepared to pay their quarterly tuition and fees at the time of registration. Students who are joining the English program (Intensive English, College Bridge or Advanced English) cannot register for classes until orientation, which occurs a few days prior to the start of classes. Students who are eligible to enroll directly in a college program for their first quarter can pre-register for classes starting a few weeks before the beginning of classes and will be sent information on how to pay tuition and fees in advance by credit card. In any case, payments not received by registration may result in serious problems for the student, including the inability to attend classes or use campus facilities.

Please note that the cost of ESL classes differs from the cost of college classes, so exact tuition and fee amounts for students who take a combination of ESL and College classes will be determined upon registration.

Tuition and Fees Payment Methods for the First Quarter

First quarter tuition and fees may be paid by one of the following methods:

1) Credit card online
Students can pay for classes online using a credit card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover), after they have officially registered for classes. To make a payment by credit card online, go to http://seattlecentral.edu/registration/tuition.php and follow the instructions. Note that the cost of insurance is included when students pay online. Students who plan to waive the insurance requirement must request a waiver from the ISC and plan to pay in person.

2) In person at the Cashier's Office
In person tuition payments can be made at the Seattle Central Cashier’s Office, only after being officially registered for classes. The following forms of payment are accepted:

  • Cash
  • Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard or Discover)
  • Debit card from a bank in the U.S.
  • Traveller's checks
  • Money order from a bank in the U.S. (must be written for the exact amount of charges)
  • International Bank draft (must be written for the exact amount of charges)
  • Personal check drawn from a bank in the U.S. (must be written for the exact amount of charges)

3) Wire transfer (tuition and fees deposit)
Seattle Central accepts tuition and fee deposits for students who wish to plan ahead or prefer to pay for their first quarter tuition and fees before officially registering for classes and leaving their home country. Tuition and fee deposits may be made by wire transfer only. Please note that wire transfer deposits can only cover tuition and fees, and not any other expenses, such as housing or books. To arrange a wire transfer, please follow our Wire Transfer Guide. Students who do not make a deposit will need to make their tuition and fees payment after registering for classes, either by paying with a credit card online or in person at the Cashier's Office.

Tuition and Fees Payment Methods AFTER the First Quarter

Wire transfers(tuition and fees deposits) are NOT accepted for payment of tuition and fees after the first quarter. For subsequent quarter tuition and fee payments, students must make alternate plans: they can either pay in person at the Cashier's Office or by credit card online, after they have officially registered for classes. Refer to the information above for details on each of these two payment methods.
