Project: Ready, Set, Transfer! 2.0

Award: $1,521,081 over 5 years (December 2016‐November 2021)

Goal: Support low income students to completion of associates degree and successful transfer to a four‐year STEM degree program through scholarships, mentoring, enhanced advising, and support of the development of a STEM student identity. The project includes a research component focused on the impact of structural inequality related to social class on the experiences and opportunities of developmental math students.

Project: Marine Research in Puget Sound for Community College STEM Students

Goal: Engage community college students from the Puget Sound Region in authentic marine research experiences that teach skills for quality research and data and analysis in support of the understanding, preservation and restoration of the ecology of the Puget Sound.

Project: Experience Maritime Programs (EMP): A Hands on introduction to Careers and Pathways in the Maritime Industry.

Award: $150,924 over 2 years (February 2017‐September 2018)

Goal: Address the skills gap in the Maritime Industry by providing hands‐on learning experiences for high school students that expand awareness of maritime career pathways, facilitate entry to related training programs, integrate ocean literacy into maritime training and instill a passion for a career at sea.

Goal: Help employed childcare providers and early learning educators complete stackable certificates and associate degrees in early childhood education. Seattle Central offers courses on campus and in the community, including a series taught in the Somali language.

Project: BFET Program

Award: $360,259 (October 1, 2016-September 30 2017)

Goal: Support access and completion of workforce education programs for individuals receiving federal food assistance. The Department of Health and Human Services administers these funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food and Nutrition Services through a collaboration with the State Board of Community and Technical Colleges.

Project: TechHire Seattle/King County

Award: $3.7 million over four years (July 2016‐June 2020)

Goal: Support underrepresented young adults to enter employment in software development by providing accelerated training opportunities and paid internship experiences to individuals currently underrepresented in technology fields. Seattle Central leads a consortium of partners providing alternative pathways with support designed to address the needs of specific populations.

Project: Maritime Engineering Apprenticeship

Award: $915,062 over five years (October 2015‐September 2020)

Goal: Create a registered apprenticeship program for Maritime Engineers. Seattle Central will work with maritime training partners to develop curriculum, engage employers, obtain Coast Guard approval, and recruit and train apprentices.
