and Extra Credit Possibilities
Up to 50 points available ! Start early, though, because there’s no extra credit possible after the 9th week. You are responsible for keeping track of your extra points and you will also briefly describe what you did. If you have other ideas for extra credit, please talk to me about it.

points :
For either of the following options, time considerations are as follows :
2 units= 50-55 hours (5 hours per week total) ; independent study contracts are felxible and dependent upon student interest and talent, but will be similar to the outlined suggestions below ; contracts should be completed by the end of the first week.
50 points=10 hours total= two quizzes=1/2 exam
Become a French-language film buff !
·Select interesting videos for rental or purchase (funded by French Club)
·Make a list of potential films to be shown throughout the quarter
·Make a flyer to publicize them, get it approved at Student Activities, where you can also copy it
·Distribute approved lyers around campus
·Invite those who show up to discuss the film

Earn 10 points for any of the
following :
·Write and produce a video/audio or multi-media creative (and potentially humorous) skit, mock ad, adapted scene from a play or novel, etc., to show to the class (à 5 minutes). See instructor or John Chapman in the media center regarding use of video equipment.
·Give an extra presentation to the class. Get prior approval and schedule with instructor. Practice the presentation with one of the tutors before giving it to the class (to make sure it’s comprehensible and to time it). Time limits : 3-5 minutes (flexible only with prior approval).
Earn 5 points for any of the
following :
·Attend a conversation group, Tuesday evenings at 7PM at the Dilettante Café on Broadway.
·Attend an event sponsored by the Alliance française de Seattle : 4649 Sunnyside N., Seattle 98103 ; (206) 632-5433. The Alliance française sponsors a number of French-related events in the greater Seattle area, such as parties, conversation groups, cultural presentations, and French-language tours of the Bellevue Art Museum (top floor of the Bellevue Square Mall). this is an excellent way to meet other francophiles and French speakers.
·Attend or rent a French-language film and write a paragraph summarizing the film in French ; or, write a longer critique (approx. 250 words) in English, analyzing how well the film worked as an art form, considering what genre of film it is as well as the historical, cultural and cinematographic context.
·Work together with students from different level class on grammar or topics of your interest (5 points per meeting, up to 20 points).
·Meet with one of the tutors to go over homework or practice speaking.
