" The economic and technological triumphs of the past few years have not
solved as many problems as we thought they would, and, in fact, have brought us
new problems we did not foresee. " by Henry Ford II
My focus is to give information on how global warming is effecting our environment. This is a very broad area of research, but no less important than one of a lesser area. I believe this field of research effects most if not all other areas of research to some extent. This subject is one that effects the world as a whole, not just part, there isn’t a place that will be un-effected. Here are a few questions to ask yourself about this subject.
…What exactly have we done to make this problem as bad as it is now?
…What have we done or what is it going to take to decrease or lower what damage has already been done?
http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/
The EPA is a governmental organization with the United States. This organization is part of many different environmental protection areas, one in particular is Global warming. The goal of this Web site is to present information on global warming, a subject that is very broad. This web site is meant to be for the public and their feelings on the distribution of this subject is, “the more this issue is made known the more this global issue can be handled”. This EPA also works closely with the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change). This other organization has created a census of climatic changes.
NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
http://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/ol/climate/globalwarming.html#Q9
Since Global climate change is one of the most debated topics on earth it is very important to look at it with an open mind to information. This web site helps to answer some commonly asked questions. With the help from an organization named NCDC (National climatic data center) they have the largest archive of climate records in the world. NOAA give clear and plain answers to some very hot debated subjects. This site is open to the public to more or less inform them of what is happening and why.
Emissions from fuel combustion. 1996. Key World Energy Statistics., IEA 12 June 2000.

Zimmerman, Michael. “Environment.” Microsoft Encarta Encyclopedia. CD-ROM. 1998.
Michael Zimmerman wrote this, but he more or less just put a collaboration of information on a page. I wouldn’t be very sure as too how credible his work is because I have never heard of him. The source of publication is very credible though. Microsoft has a history of creating and publishing excellent documents of information. There is how ever a newer version of this reference source, but I didn’t have access to it. The lay-out/format of the information is very open and easily read. The information included is very helpful to one researching anything on the Environment. This Article covers most all of the factors effecting the Environment.
Greenhouse Effect. June. 2000. Encyclopædia Britannica Online. 12 June 2000.
This is a very good reference book, or in this case accessed on the web. The publisher of this information is very reliable. This reference is a good start to finding out what Global warming is. In a very clear manner it is described in a concise definition. Despite the fact there wasn’t a writer present the information is relevant and accurate.
Somervill, Richard. The forgiving air: understanding environmental change
California: University of California Press, 1996.
With relatively new amounts of information pouring out and into this subject I’m sure that there are many like this book. The fact that a university press publishes it could mean that has some immediate credibility. This book goes into explaining how the environment is actually responding to these changes in air quality. Even though there author doesn’t have too much credibility the fact that there are so many different theories on how the whereabouts of this change came into play doesn’t make a major difference. There really is no way to validate your readings, this is because there are so many different answers to just a simple question in this field.
Roleff, Tamera. Pollution : Opposing Viewpoints.
California: Greenhaven Press, 2000.
I do know that this book is very un-opinionated. Pollution is now more or less just a common word around. And this web site gives an all-around answer to any ones questions. After reading such a book you would have a very good understanding on every side to this topic. Roleff pulls a conglomeration of answers and questions together to make a book that will give enough of both sides to give and even answer.
Harte, John. "Can We Stop Global Warming?" USA Today. Mar. 1997:78-80.
SIRS Researcher. 22 May 2000. <http://www.sirs.com/>.
John Harte asks many questions in this article, then answers all of them throughout his writing. I’m not sure how dependable his information is, I would say that since it is published by the “U.S. Today” I would have to guess his information is accurate. He claims the warming is being caused by Humanity. He goes to show that Carbon Dioxide is the main contributor in this warming. He questions the forecaster’s predictions for the future with the intention of answering them in the right or wrong. He near the end follows up on what the out come will be if and when the earth’s temperature rises.
Smith, Gar. “W2K: The extreme weather era” Earth Island Journal. Summer 2000
ProQuest Direct, 9 June 2000. <http://www.umi.com/>.
Gar Smith does an excellent job at explaining this essay. Most will also find this site to be very interesting as well. It discusses the exact effect the rising oceans are having in the world. While we sit in our homes of luxury mounted on some sort of hill there are islands that are vanishing forever. Smith also points out some very troubling facts, which if not handled carefully if handled at all can be very disastrous.
EPA Global Warming. 2000. United States Environmental Protection Agency. June 3, 2000.
<http://www.epa.gov/globalwarming/>
This is a Governmental web-site on the environment the, “U.S. EPA”. This particular web site discusses Global Warming. It displays information that is recent to the day and in this web site gives scenarios that might happen as a cause of this new found information. This Site asks questions on the opening page to encourage the reader to continue reading the report. You will find the information to be updated very well as well as often and in a format that is easily read.
NOAA Global Warming. 1999.
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. June 9, 2000.
This web-site is in correlation with the NCDC (National Climate Data center), which has the largest achieve of weather data in the world. The information found on either of these web sites is very credible. Even though this web-site is mostly text, the information is very good and easily understood. Not only does this site give detailed information on the atmosphere but also has information on how the oceans are being affected too.
Global warming: Turning up the heat. David T. Suzuki. Videocassette.
Bullfrog Films Inc., 1996.
Scientific assessment of Ozone depletion. NOAA. Micorform. NOAA., 1999.
I have learned quite a bit about global warming through my research. This is however not all of the information out there on this subject, rather, it is just what I felt best conveyed my thoughts through the information presented. These web sites are exceptionally good at presenting their information in a way that is very understandable and in a format that won’t leave you hanging.
I really enjoyed researching this topic because this subject has so much of an effect on the whole world. Not that I enjoy the fact that the oceans are rising and the weather is growing out of the norm., enjoy it because I like to place all the pieces together from different sources. This subject has countless sources that can be reached for information. This topic is still in the development stage. There hasn’t been much more than a full decade of dedication given to this subject. You could say it is still an infant compared to many other global issues. This is a really weird fact seeing as how it has always been a factor in the world, just not well known I guess. It has since then been brought to our attention and immediate action has been taken.
This information however shouldn’t create a false sense of awareness that everything is taken care of. This is just not the case. Science and technology can only do a small part in defending future increase in temperature, the change has to come within the global population. Hence, the fact that it is a global issue, not just one person is responsible for the mess.
I hope you enjoyed this pathfinder, I spent some pretty late nights gathering information for this so I hope it is up to par. Thank You for taking the time to read.
