Adams, J (1984), Active deformation of the PNW continental margin; Tectonics, v. 3, pp. 449-472.  An early paper that discusses the scrunching of the leading edge of North America.

Atwater T (1970), Implications of plate tectonics for the Cenozoic tectonic evolution of western north America; Geol. Soc. Am. Bull. v. 81, pp. 3513-3536.  Tanya's classic paper showing the disappearance of the great Farallon plate and the growth of the San Andreas fault.  This paper is a landmark.

Carlson RL (1981), Late Cenozoic rotations of the Juan de Fuca ridge and the Gorda rise-a case study; Tectonophysics, v. 77, pp. 171-188.  I watched Rick write this paper!  Good correlation between offshore plate movement and onshore geology.

Delaney JR, Johnson HP and Karsten JL (1981), The Juan de Fuca ridge-hot spot-propagating rift system: new tectonic, geochemical and magnetic data; J. Geop. Res., v. 86, pp. 11747-11750.  First in a series of papers by the UW's John Delaney et al on the Juan de Fuca ridge.  Technical but good maps etc.

Heaton TH and Hartzell SH (1987), Earthquake hazards on the Cascadia subduction zone; Science, v. 236, pp. 162-168.  Very technical but Figure 1 is great for everybody, showing a map of the plates and major quakes in the PNW.

Yeats, R. S. (1998), Living with Earthquakes in the PNW; Ore. State Univ. Press, 308 pp.  Outstanding contribution to active tectonics, faults, earthquakes, tsunamis and risk in the PNW.  Lots of solid information it's all in here. *****
