1.How does rainfall AND snowfall get into rivers, what are the pathways from precipitation to river discharge?

 2.      Make a sketch, a cross section, across a river valley.  Label the parts of the channel and other river features.

3.      What is discharge, and how is it calculated?  What is bankfull discharge?

4.      What happens to the shape of the river and its channel (in cross section) during high discharge and then flooding?  Make some sketches.

5.List three alternatives to artificial levees, three strategies for living with or on a flood plain without the use of human-made levees.

6.      Where does dissolved load end up?  Where does suspended load go, where is the suspended load deposited?  And where is bed load deposited?

7.      Sketch the stages from a simple meander to an oxbow lake.  Why do meanders grow in size, why do they get more "loopy"?

8.      What is a drainage basin?  Sketch a map view of a simple drainage basin or drainage system.  Thought question: do drainage basins grow, shrink and/or stay the same size over time?
