Humble penitence for our national perverseness

This quarter I have been studying sociology. We have been taught many things, but only given one side, and limited facts. We have been taught that Bush lied (even though we're still waiting to be told exactly how); we've been told that corporations are the cause of all poverty; and that the rich are always the ones to blame. Our heroes have been replaced and instead of George Washington (who we're told was a racist) or Thomas Jefferson, we are given (documentarian) Michael Moore and Karl Marx.

This is not all: sociologists make sure that we're all victims by explaining to us how exactly we've been discriminated against and by whom (even if we don't see it as racism ourselves). This indoctrination is added upon when our grade is based on learning the right opinion versus the right answer.

I understand that sociology is an important way of analyzing and hopefully improving society, but when sociology becomes the political platform of many professors, I have a problem. I am not mad or angry, on the contrary, I am still grateful to live in this country.

I am thankful for this time of year when I, in gratitude, can thank God for this country. I am thankful for our president, who works daily to protect our borders. I am thankful for our businesses and corporations, which bring prosperity and wealth into our communities. My only wish is that others would sense this and know that it is OK to be American.
