Instructor’s Role

As I see it, the role of the instructor is similar to that of a musical director, providing direction and insight.

I tend to rely on the Socratic approach to education.  Direction is frequently provided by the use of questions regarding student assignment answers, student comments, and student questions.

You will note that I have little use for student opinions.  Please remember Justice Thomas' statement regarding emotions and feelings.

The use of ambiguous words and concepts will not be permitted.  The word “fair” is rarely appropriate in any meaningful or serious discussion of economic issues.

Supplemental readings take the place of lectures: raising questions, providing insights,

Take note that my communication with one student may be meant for all to consume and consider.

Finally, I assume that students are in this class to learn economics.  Keep in mind that the economic way of thinking may not reflect other social science models that you may have learned in sociology and political science.
