Interviewing for a job

There are dozens and dozens of books, videos, websites, and experts that promise to show you the best way to get the job.

Basically there are three methods.

Number one, practice the correct answers to questions.

Number two; tell the interviewer what they want to hear.

Number three, sell yourself.

Practice the correct answers to questions. Take a look at the list of questions that are commonly asked in interviews. You can practice answering these questions in writing and verbally.

It’s a good practice for you to think about how you might answer interview questions..  But there are no guarantees that the questions you studied will be asked of you.

Tell the interviewer what they want to hear. Some experts believe that if you answer questions that are accommodating and flexible to what to the interviewer wants you will be offered a job.

Apparently this method has worked for many people.

Be cautious of saying, “Yes I will.” Or “Yes, I like.” To which you do not or may not agree. In the long run you may find yourself unhappy with the job choice.

Sell yourself.  Popular and motivating people to talk about themselves this method can allow for you to explain your accomplishments, and exude enthusiasm.

While preferred by many people some personality types feel uncomfortable with this practice. If you do decide to use this method it will give you the opportunity to present yourself as self assured, and confident; more so than the other methods.

Whatever method you chose the best you can be is yourself. Your interviewer wants to know who you are.  Not what you pretend to be. The more you are yourself, the easier it will be for the interviewer to assess if you will be a good match for the department.
