How does LifeLinks VRI work?
To use video remote interpreting for your meeting, simply schedule an
appointment with LifeLinks VRI. When it is time for the call, the remote
interpreter-
VRI- Video Remote Interpreting provides interpreting services for in-person
situations, using videoconferencing, videophone, or web-based video technology.
The hearing and deaf participants together, in the same location, but the
interpreter is located remotely. VRI is a paid service provided by LifeLinks. It
allows users to save money, maximize their choice of an interpreter and the type
of technology used, and to control the flow of the conversation.
VRS - Video Relay Service provides telephone access to Deaf and hard of hearing
individuals via videoconferencing or videophone equipment. It is used instead of
traditional text-based TTY (Telecommunications Devices for the Deaf) system.
These services are available free of charge for all telephone users, Deaf or
hearing as mandated by the FCC. They are intended for use across
telecommunication equipment where a phone call is being placed.

Video Remote Interpreting, VRI, uses internet video connections to access sign
language interpreting services without an in-person interpreter on site.

Note: Video Relay Services (VRS) cannot be used as a substitute for Video Remote
Interpreting (VRI). In circumstances where a deaf individual desires to
communicate with a hearing individual (and they are in the same location), he or
she may not use VRS but must either hire an on-site interpreter or a VRI
service. Lifelinks Communications fully supports the FCC rulings on VRS issues.
