Spring 2008

Sumi-e/Kami-e: Fumiko Kimura and Taiko Suzuki

March 31 through April 25, 2008

The M. Rosetta Hunter Art Gallery at Seattle Central welcomes local artists Fumiko Kimura and Taiko Suzuki in this exhibition of calligraphy, printmaking, and collage. Kimura, a recent recipient of a Return To Creativity grant, gracefully interprets Chinese pictograms, matching the spirit and movement of her brush with that of each character. Suzuki, an instructor with Seattle Central's Continuing Education Programs, draws upon her decades of experience as she incorporates hand-crafted paper with elements of printmaking and sumi in her melding of hanga (printmaking) and washi (papermaking) traditions, providing a contemporary spin on both.
