Youth In Focus: IDENTITY
November 26 through December 12, 2007
Reception November 27, 5-7 PM
Youth in Focus uses photography as a medium to help urban youths to explore their artistic vision. The award winning project has built partnerships with several community organizations in order to help young people document their perspectives and encourages young photographers to draw upon their experiences, cultures, and communities as a source of inspiration. This summer, through the generosity of the Seattle Pride Foundation, Youth in Focus was able to partner with the young staff of the YWCA Working Zone’s ZINE project- an internship serving homeless youths ages 15-22 to address barriers to housing and employment. The results of their participation in an eight-day workshop that focused on one word: IDENTITY, are an extraordinary body of self-portraits, scenes and words that hold personal importance and meaning for each young artist.
