Achieving the Dream addresses a national imperative: to enhance opportunity for the growing number of students for whom community colleges are the point of entry into higher education. The initiative aims to increase the success of community college students, particularly those in groups that have been underserved in higher education, including low income students, first generation, students of color and others. Data driven decision making will be key to attaining this goal.
Seattle Central Community College is a third-round institution, joining the initiative in 2006. After receiving the initial investment grant, the College formed two Core and Data Teams, collected and reviewed institutional and student data, and studied and designed strategies for increasing student success. The teams prepared the multi-year implementation proposal, which was submitted and approved in May 2007. The teams are currently working on Year 1 activities.
